2014 Team 8A Parent Letter
Dear
Parent/Guardian,
The teachers of Team 8A would like to
welcome you and your child to our first full year at Cedarbrook-Central Middle
School! We look forward to meeting
you October 6, 2014 from 7:00-9:00pm at “Back-to-School Night”!
Please be sure your student brings all
required forms to his or her homeroom teacher as soon as possible. The students should hand in the
following forms: (1) Health-Emergency, (2) Signed front page of DAB, (3)
Technology Usage, and any other pertinent documents needed by the school
district.
This year your child will only carry a
binder to class, keeping his or her backpack in lockers. Unless specified for home use, all of
the supplies listed below should be in your child’s binder or pencil case every
day.
General Supply List:
·
2” loose-leaf binder/trapper keeper or two 1½” binders (sturdy)
·
16 loose-leaf dividers
·
loose-leaf paper
·
pencil case (large enough to hold a calculator and ear
buds)
·
ear buds
·
scientific/graphing calculator
·
No. 2 pencils
·
small sharpener
·
blue/black ink pens
·
1 highlighter
·
3-hole-punched folders (as specified by subject
teachers)
·
Recommended for home use: colored pencils, markers,
construction paper, glue, and ruler
·
1 box of tissue for major classes
English:
Students
will need an English folder and three dividers (vocabulary, grammar, and
literature) in their binder. In
addition, each student must have a pack of index cards and a plastic case for
home use. Students will be
informed when they are to bring them to school.
The summer
reading assignment is due by Thursday, September 4th.
Students will receive a grade for this assignment. For further instructions, visit the
website below: http://www.cheltenham.org/CedarbrookMiddle.cfm?subpage=42655
Math:
All students need a section in
their 3-ring binder for math notes, handouts, and assessments. As noted above, students should also
have 2 additional two-subject, spiral-bound notebooks that are only used
for math class for each semester. They will need plenty of
loose-leaf paper and pencils. In addition, each student should have a
calculator for use during the school year. The TI-30XS (sold by the school) is
sufficient. OPTIONAL: For students in Algebra 1, a
TI-84+ is optional.
Go to http://www.cheltenham.org/webpages/aanderson/ to visit Ms. Anderson’s webpage for class notes
and worksheets.
Science:
All students need a section in
their 3-ring binder for science notes, handouts, and assessments. Students will need plenty of loose-leaf
paper, a highlighter, and a pen and pencil. In addition, each student should
have a calculator for use during the school year. Students should come prepared to do group lab work and
individual work.
Social
Studies:
Students will need three divider sections in
their binder. The first divider
section should have loose-leaf paper for class notes, the second section is for
class handouts, and third section is for graded assignments.
Study Island is a major component of the 8th-grade
curriculum. Study Island is a
weekly assignment, counted as a grade in English, math, and science, and
students can work ahead if they choose to do so.
It is our desire to
make this a year of excellence. We
look forward to working closely with you to ensure the success of your
child.
Sincerely,
Team 8A Teachers
